Description WAIPUKURAU - PIONEER CORNER - WHO LIVED HERE ON THE TRIANGLE?
No privacy or escaping the traffic noise for this home, but no over-the-fence disputes either.
It was built on Section 24, surrounded by Wellington Road on the West, Tavistock place on the East and the start of the Waipukurau-Tamamu Road (as it was back then - Mt Herbert Road today).
This wasn't the result of some later road change, but picture St Joseph Street was originally called the Napier Road, and went straight ahead across the river as a ford. Tavistock Terrace allowed for the bullock teams to drive forward on an easier line when, after a stop for a feed and a drink, continue on the main road south, the Wellington Road, which was back then was via Porangahau.
Who were the ones who lived here over the years? What was life like? Any remembrances? Photos show it was here until at least 1958, and likely more recent than that.
